This small, step-by-step guide will teach even the most novice of online poker players how to multi-table online poker tables efficiently and profitably.
If you’re going to make the decision to multi-table cash games or Sit-and-Go’s online, the first thing you’ll need is plenty of rest and a clear head. You don’t want to open up 4 tables dead tired and not even remotely focused on the task at hand. If necessary, bust open a few energy drinks to keep you going, and listen to some music in the background to set the ambience for the remainder of your session.
Have a game plan and a sure-fire way not to tilt off your bankroll. Basically, don’t play stupid and play within the constraints of the cash you’ve got loaded in your account. It’s very important IMO to stick to a certain game level, and only move up when you feel that both your game and your bankroll are ready for it. Why jump from a $25 Max NL table to a $100 Max NL table when you haven’t even shown a profit from your prior lower-limit excursions?
Get your software situated! The most novice of multi-tablers should be doing what the most experienced of multi-tablers are doing – and that’s using PokerTracker or PokerEdge software to track their game play. Not only are these great tools to have to monitor your own progress, but it’s also key to have in order to gain better information on your opponents. Programs like PT and PokerEdge show opponents PFR (Pre-Flop Raising %’s), VPIP (Voluntary Put in Pot %), and AF (Aggression Factor) – all of which determine what kind of label you can put on your opponents (tight-aggressive, loose-passive, etc). It also gives you an idea of what your opponents play and what range of hands they may have during a given pot. It’s quite possibly one of the best things you can have during an intense multi-tabling session, just because of all the information you get to soak in during play.
Choose only the amount of games you can handle in a given session. Do not overload yourself. As mentioned in the first step, you want to make sure your brain isn’t overworked and is functioning to the best of its ability before you start a nice multi-table session.
Determine a goal you would like to reach at the end of the day. Whether you choose to multi-table for 1 hour or 8 hours, track your progress and write down a goal you want to hit. Whether it be attaining a certain ROI for the session or averaging a $40+ hour profit, you should always be monitoring what you want to do and how you can make such goals more attainable.
Last but not least, DO NOT GET FRUSTRATED. That is the main problem with a lot of multi-tabling online poker players today. With so many games going on, so many screens and decisions popping up every few seconds, it can really begin to wear on a person throughout a given session. If you have to get up to take a break or to stretch, then by all means do it. Keeping yourself relaxed and focused for the next batch of tables is one of the main ingredients to being a successful multi-tabler.
